Silks or tissu is two panels hanging from the ceiling, and is what people traditionally think of when they think of circus silks. Sling is the little sister of silks that busted on the scene around 25 years ago or so.
Sling, fabric, or hammock are the common terms for the single piece of wide, silky fabric that hangs from the ceiling. Aerial yoga using the sling was created by a yogini and circus practitioner who wanted to offer a more therapeutic and accessible approach to both circus and yoga. It certainly does that and more and now sling is a full-fledged apparatus that is beneficial for fun aerial tricks, physical therapy, strength building, improving flexibility/mobility, spinal decompression and more.
